Posing for Couples: A Simple Guide

For couples, modeling together can be a fun way to express their connection through photography. Whether it's for a professional shoot, wedding portraits, or simply capturing special moments, the right poses can highlight the bond between partners. First, some universal things to think about to help add to your posing. Them, as showing is better than telling, I have provided some of my favorite youtube videos that can help show you how to get the exact type of poses you want.

Work with Movement

People are often very subconscious when posing statically, so mix it up and try moving. Walking, running, jumping, movement of any kind can help to improve the image and lower stress.

Clothing is Important

Too often I see couples arrive to the photo session without any visual planning to their wardrobes: competing colors, two completely different styles and care and attention taken for their clothing at different levels. Of course sometimes we may want this to be the look (and in that case, please do let the photographer know), but some thought about what you are both wearing ahead of time can help to create a more harmonious picture. Spend a bit of time seeing how both of your clothing can help your desired images. (*If one you irons their clothes, it’s probably best that you both do)

Show Everyone What You Like

Sharing example images is what I see very few people do, not only with the photographer but also their photo companion. Having everyone on the same page about the look and feel of your images help for everyone involved to move towards a common goal and perhaps give their own contribution to create unique photos. I suggest creating a Pinterest board to allow for easy sharing and collaboration.
